Does your blood pressure fluctuate and get excessively high at times? You may be experiencing signs of diabetes and must make sure you are properly diagnosed so you can adapt to the right kind of diet. In this article, discover the effects of diabetes and what a nutritionist can do to help you come up with a diet to keep your health in a safe condition.

How Can Diabetes Affect Someone's Health?

Diabetes is a disorder that affects how well your metabolism is able to provide energy for your body. When food breaks down into glucose, your metabolism uses the energy from it to keep your body functional. Glucose is basically the main thing affected by diabetes, as it is a type of sugar that is in your bloodstream. Your cells will not receive any glucose if there is no insulin in the blood, which means the cells will not grow.

If you have diabetes, it is due to there being too much glucose in your bloodstream. The high level of glucose stems from there being no insulin or a low amount of insulin in the blood. Sometimes diabetes may occur simply because you have cells in your body that are not responding to the insulin that is present.

Diabetes can be frustrating to live with if you don't seek the right kind of care. You must also eat foods that will not cause a flare of symptoms, which is easy to do with the help of a nutritionist. A few of the symptoms you can experience from diabetes include

  • Dehydration
  • Blurred vision
  • Heart problems
  • Hearing problems
  • Prolonged wound healing

How Can a Nutritionist Help with a Diet Plan for Diabetes?

A nutritionist will have to assess your overall health before coming up with a diet plan. He or she will see how much you weigh, how tall you are, and ask about your typical eating habits. Your diet plan will be based on your health, such as for lowering your blood pressure or cholesterol. If you are overweight, one of the goals will be to help you achieve the ideal weight for your height. You can expect to pay up to $200 for a consultation with a nutritionist. However, the price may be lower if you have health insurance.

Diabetes is not a condition that you want to leave untreated because it can lead to serious health problems. After you are diagnosed with the disease, make sure you make an appointment with a nutritionist so you can adapt to a healthy diet!

Help Others Make Health Decisions when They Cannot

One day I was playing a game of basketball with a friend, and the friend I was playing ball with tripped and took a hard fall to the ground. He hit his head hard, but he insisted he was okay and just wanted to go home and take a nap. I knew in my heart that he was not thinking clearly, and I didn't feel right letting him go home. I talked him into letting me take him to the hospital, and after some tests, it was determined he had a bad concussion. The doctors told me that if I had let him go home and sleep, things could have taken a turn for the worse. I created this blog to remind everyone to look out for each other after injuries. Not everyone thinks clearly after a head injury, and just being a good friend could save a life.
