Chiropractic Care: Myth Vs. Fact

Health & Medical Blog

There are many people who are skeptical of chiropractic care. After all, there is lots of information out there that describes chiropractic care as something that someone should receive on a regular basis while other information warns against it. The reason for all of this varying information could be because of the myths that surround chiropractic care that many people believe to be true. Here are some of the myths surrounding chiropractic care and the truth behind it:

Myth 1: Chiropractors Aren't Doctors

One common misconception about chiropractors is that they are not doctors when, in fact, chiropractors must go to school to receive their doctorate in chiropractic care. This means that chiropractors like Nelson, Barry I Dr DC are licensed in their profession making them medical professionals. What's more is that chiropractors typically have more educational time in the classroom than other medical professionals on top of having to complete a residency under the careful watch of licensed medical professionals. From there, a chiropractor must also pass national board exams, as well as an exam in the state in which they will be practicing. Without all of this careful training, chiropractic care likely wouldn't be as effective as it is today.

Myth 2: Chiropractors Fix Back Pain Only

Another myth that surrounds chiropractic care is that chiropractors can only treat back pain. This is why so many younger individuals who do not experience health pain do not visit a chiropractor on a regular basis like it is otherwise recommended. It is important to understand that chiropractic care is not just there to treat back pain. Chiropractors work to treat and remove interferences around the nerves surrounding the spinal cord. This significantly improves the overall function of the central nervous system, which then can improve and treat chronic headaches, sinus problems, high blood pressure, and more.

Myth 3: You Can Crack Your Back Yourself

When people hear that chiropractors work to manipulate and adjust the spine, they often think that they can just do this themselves by cracking their back. However, cracking your back often times does not adjust the contact points around the spine that are used to make chiropractic care effective. Often times, when cracking your back you are just cracking a joint that doesn't improve your overall back movement in any significant way.

By knowing some of these common myths and the facts that are behind them, you can be sure you are more open to receiving effective chiropractic care that can improve your health significantly.

Help Others Make Health Decisions when They Cannot

One day I was playing a game of basketball with a friend, and the friend I was playing ball with tripped and took a hard fall to the ground. He hit his head hard, but he insisted he was okay and just wanted to go home and take a nap. I knew in my heart that he was not thinking clearly, and I didn't feel right letting him go home. I talked him into letting me take him to the hospital, and after some tests, it was determined he had a bad concussion. The doctors told me that if I had let him go home and sleep, things could have taken a turn for the worse. I created this blog to remind everyone to look out for each other after injuries. Not everyone thinks clearly after a head injury, and just being a good friend could save a life.
