Ingredient Sensitivity: Ways To Avoid Foods That Upset Your Body

Health & Medical Blog

Not all food allergies show up from birth. But in many cases, you are sensitive to certain ingredients that upset your body in one way or another. For this reason, you need to know how to avoid certain foods or substances so you do not have to deal with the consequences of them on a daily basis.

Elimination Diet

When many people think of food allergies, the reaction to peanuts comes to mind. In many cases, food allergies can lead to anaphylactic shock. This condition can cause airways to restrict, and without medical intervention, it could lead to death. However, this is not the only reaction a person can have to a food or ingredient that their body cannot tolerate.

For some people, they have what is known as a food sensitivity or intolerance, which can cause other problems such as hives, nausea or diarrhea. Prolonged exposure to these items could cause you to develop a severe allergy, which is why you want to do an elimination diet.

With an elimination diet, you need to keep track of each food type that does not agree with you in some way. Using this method allows you to remove foods from your diet one at a time, so you can minimize your exposure to their negative effects.

This process takes time and you should only change your diet with the help of physician. This way, they can also monitor your health and make sure you are still consuming enough nutrients and minerals to stay healthy.

Know the Ingredients

Whether you are making your own food or eating at a restaurant, you need to be aware of everything you are eating and drinking. The easiest way to accomplish your goal is to read the labels for each product you buy, especially if you have an intolerance to a specific chemical. It does take patience and time to read each label, but avoiding the negative effects of a substance is worth the work.

Before you go out to a restaurant, it is a good idea to see if the location has their menu online. Since many people are trying to eat healthier, many restaurants are placing menus online that also have the main ingredients listed. If you notice that one location has a lot of foods with an ingredient that you have a sensitivity to, you have the option of finding someplace else eat before you ever leave your home.

Help Others Make Health Decisions when They Cannot

One day I was playing a game of basketball with a friend, and the friend I was playing ball with tripped and took a hard fall to the ground. He hit his head hard, but he insisted he was okay and just wanted to go home and take a nap. I knew in my heart that he was not thinking clearly, and I didn't feel right letting him go home. I talked him into letting me take him to the hospital, and after some tests, it was determined he had a bad concussion. The doctors told me that if I had let him go home and sleep, things could have taken a turn for the worse. I created this blog to remind everyone to look out for each other after injuries. Not everyone thinks clearly after a head injury, and just being a good friend could save a life.
