Health & Medical Blog

Being overweight not only takes its toll on your health, but it also takes its toll on your self-esteem. It can make you stay indoors when you should be outside enjoying the world around you. Instead of feeling like you don't want people to see you, begin the process of losing weight today and embrace the new you. It doesn't have to be as complicated as you might think. Just try one of the methods below to become a whole new you in no time.

Visit a weight loss clinic.

A weight loss clinic is a great place to start for those who are looking to jumpstart their weight loss. The clinic has a number of trained professionals who can help guide you in the right foods to eat and how much exercise you should be doing. They will walk you through the process and help you set realistic goals on what you should lose each week. If you have questions, you can ask one of the staff members and they will make sure you get the answers you need. There is an excellent support system here as well that can help give you the boost of encouragement you need when you are struggling.

Download a calorie tracker app.

Oftentimes, people end up struggling to lose weight because they are putting in more calories than they realize. It's easy to see how food can add up and end up taking over your life and your health. To help you better understand how many calories you are consuming and where you can cut back, a calorie app might be just what you need. You input all of your information into the app and it gives you a daily total. It can also tell you how much you need to exercise to burn a certain number of calories.

Start exercising.

Above all else, you have to get moving. Start out by exercising for even 10 minutes per day and build your way up to 40-60 minutes per day. The trick is to get your metabolism going. Cardio like running, walking, jumping rope and swimming are all great forms of exercise that just about anyone can do. Find a friend and make it a social event to help give you the little extra incentive to keep on going.

By doing the three things above, you can be on your way to a happier and healthier new you in no time.

Help Others Make Health Decisions when They Cannot

One day I was playing a game of basketball with a friend, and the friend I was playing ball with tripped and took a hard fall to the ground. He hit his head hard, but he insisted he was okay and just wanted to go home and take a nap. I knew in my heart that he was not thinking clearly, and I didn't feel right letting him go home. I talked him into letting me take him to the hospital, and after some tests, it was determined he had a bad concussion. The doctors told me that if I had let him go home and sleep, things could have taken a turn for the worse. I created this blog to remind everyone to look out for each other after injuries. Not everyone thinks clearly after a head injury, and just being a good friend could save a life.
